A website called BuildSurrey has been launched to help businesses win contracts with Surrey County Council in a bid to keep spending local. The site will allow firms to bid for construction and repair work for the council and its main contractors. Builders and electricians will also be able to use the site to bid for work for other organisations and councils. The aim is that the site will help the council to ensure that 60% of spending is local. There will be an event at Epsom Racecourse on Thursday 7th February to register for the site and get advice.

Peter Martin, deputy leader of Surrey County Council, said: “In the current climate, we must do everything we can to support the local economy and our aim is to ensure 60 per cent of the county council’s spending is with local businesses. There can be no better way for the council to help local firms thrive than by putting money in their bank accounts through the BuildSurrey website.”
