Cumbria County Council’s Cabinet has agreed on a plan that will deliver superfast broadband to 93% of homes and businesses in the county’s rural areas – where private sector broadband is not available – by the end of 2015 and hopes to make the best possible use of the public sector funding for this project.

According to the council, “This decision is the most significant step to date in shaping the digital future of Cumbria, ensuring that access to superfast broadband is available to the widest possible area and placing Cumbria at the forefront of digital technology delivery.”

The council has received formal State Aid approval and is waiting on approval from the European Commission.
