The Department for Transport has launched a website,, which allows citizens to see their local council’s record on road safety over the last seven years, compare collision and casualty figures against factors like population and traffic levels, as well as see how many collisions took place on a particular road.

According to Stephen Hammond, the road safety minister, “This new comparison website will give local residents a more accurate picture of their council’s performance in reducing road casualties and will allow councils to make more meaningful assessments of the work they are doing to improve road safety.”

The department will also be launching a research portal called Road Safety Observatory for road safety professionals.
