Spacehive, a British crowdfunding platform that claims to be the first designed specifically for civic projects, is being used by councils across the country. It allows users to upload a project and then ask residents and businesses to pledge cash. According to Spacehive, it has funded GBP 1 million of projects since it launched a year ago, including a Mansfield District Council project which raised GBP 35,000 to install free public Wi-Fi.
The platform has 300 projects in the pipeline. 12 councils have already pledged money to Spacehive projects, while five more have launched their own crowdfunding campaigns.
