Deals made via the Government’s digital marketplace have surpassed the £1bn mark, it has been revealed.
Speaking at the Sprint 16 conference, cabinet office minister Matthew Hancock and Liam Maxwell, the Government’s chief technology officer, confirmed that the milestone had been reached, adding that over 50 per cent of the business – £521m worth of deals – had gone to SMEs.
The Cabinet Office had set a target of 25 per cent of Government spending to go to small and medium-sized firms by 2015.
Launched in November 2014, the single website now boasts over 2,400 suppliers, 90 per cent of which are small and medium size enterprises.
At the conference it was announced that further upgrades will be made to the site, including scaling it up to provide more services.
