Kirklees Council is suffering ongoing problems with some of its services after they were knocked offline on Boxing Day.
A power surge disabled elements of the council’s website, as well as its main telephone contact number and email systems.
The extended outage meant residents were unable to contact the council to arrange needed house repairs such as central heating repairs. Residents were also unable to make appointments to register births or deaths. Kirklees Council added that dates for holiday bin collection couldn’t be viewed on its website, prompting angry residents to take to social media to complain about the problems.
At the time of writing, the council said it is still experiencing intermittent problems with its website. “We are working hard to fix this and to get services back to normal as soon as possible. In the meantime we appreciate your patience,” a statement said.
“Our main phone lines are now working, but we are still testing other systems, including the website. We will bring these back online as soon as possible, but some systems may not be fully functional straight away,” it added. “Some services may also take longer than others to bring back online.”
