OIX consultation kicks off Verify for local authorities discovery project

A consultation between industry leaders and suppliers has discussed GOV.UK Verify and its role in driving digital identity management and verification in the local government sector.

Etive Technologies, the firm behind the consultation, says they have witnessed keen interest amongst local authorities in how GOV.UK Verify could be used to help them deliver services more effectively, more efficiently, at lower cost, and in ways that improve the lives of their residents.

The consultation, which kicked off the OIX Alpha project, builds on the Discovery project that reported in February 2017. The project will explore in detail what GOV.UK Verify can do for local authorities, as well as what local authorities can do for GOV.UK Verify.

A key project objective is to raise the assurance levels of citizens enabling them to access national and local services more efficiently, using a legal standard of identity.

The objective of the consultation was to inform the supply side and gather their views and inputs into four topic areas:

  1.  The roll of private sector hubs and cross sector identity federation
  2. Business case for LAs and HAs to use Verify, for business and customer benefit
  3. How LAs and HAs can assess the return on investment for adopting federated identity
  4. The customer journey and connecting Verify to multiple services, national and local

The feedback and input we received from the consultation was extremely valuable and will be integrated into the report findings.
