London Grid for Learning, a consortium of local authorities and schools, has launched TRUSTnet, a package of digital services and content that will enable 23,500 schools across Britain to access the latest technology.
The network will allow schools, hospitals, emergency services and local government offices across the region to share information and collaborate – leading to improved services and allowing staff to work more flexibly.
Access points have been mounted on lamp-posts and other street furniture across the city centre and connected back into Virgin Media Business’ nationwide fibre optic network to ensure unlimited, super-fast connectivity.
"Public sector organisations will be able to take advantage of the technology that’s already available in the private sector, enabling them to deliver slicker services whilst helping to watch the pennies," said Robert Parker, director, public sector at Virgin Media Business.
Leeds City Council's ICT department is stepping up efforts to deliver services more efficiently and save the council money by taking measures such as investing in Public Services Network and Cloud services, introducing new IT asset management software and developing the ‘Bring Your Own Device’ concept.
The Cambridgeshire County Council’s adoption of Public Services Network is delivering significant financial benefits, according to IT head Noelle Godfrey.
